Looking north up the valley to Cortez. The colors of Spring contradict the desert image of Nevada.

An old house in Cortez. Still there in 1998.

A couple of miner's dwellings which show the former prosperity of the area.
Made of wood, these were rare houses to be found in a mining camp and were first-class for their day.

An more common adobe house in Cortez.

The foundations for the Cortez stamp mill.
The mills were dismantled and carried off when the mines played out.

An underground room at the top of the mill foundations. It is behind the two big metal drums at the top of the wall, in the previous picture.
Cortez is an active mining area, now. There are two modern mines across the valley from each other. The northern-most mine is at the site of the old mining camp, Gold Acres.
