Tonopah -- the Silver Queen of Nevada
On U.S. Highway 95, at midpoint, between Reno and Las Vegas. If you want to locate, centrally, to explore ghost towns, Tonopah is the place.
You can visit Goldfield, Belmont, Manhattan, & Tybo, and other less preserved sites;
These four can be reached, easily, in regular autos. Others, it's best to have four-wheel-drive-(4WD).
Many towns, in various stages of dereliction, can be visited, in a few days.

Jack Dempsey, the world boxing champion in the 1920's, worked in Tonopah in the early 1900's.
The Claim Jumper Mountain Bike Festival is to be held in Tonopah during the Jim Butler Days, July 25-26 and in Austin on August 22-23.
