          FYI, here is his obituary as it appeared in the local papers last summer:
          Joseph Harold Fay, Jr., on August 13, of complications due to Alzheimer’s disease, at his home in Goleta.Harold was born September 3, 1921 in San Francisco, first child of Joseph H. Fay, Sr. and Emily Camet.He was raised in Los Angeles and graduated from Mt. Carmel High School and Compton Junior College. During World War II, he graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY in 1944, and served on Liberty ships in the South Pacific.In 1947 he joined his father’s business, Ojai Lumber Company, assuming management in 1951.His brother Kenneth Fay of Ojai entered the business in 1956, and in 1973 Harold joined Kenneth in Aqua-Flo Supply, an irrigation supply firm.Harold retired from Aqua-Flo in 1992.
          Harold is survived by eight children: Michael Fay, Theresa Fay Stelly, Brian Fay, and Martin Fay, of Goleta; Monica Fay and Madeline Fay, of Morgan Hill; Maureen El Harake, of Mission Viejo; and Stephen Fay, of Monrovia; also by seven grandchildren.Harold is also survived by his brothers John F. Fay and Kenneth Fay of Ojai, and Alfred Fay of Sherman Oaks.
          Harold was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Toastmasters, St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Council, Ojai Architectural Board of Review, California Landscape Contractors Association, the Family Camp Association, and Santa Barbara Hospice.He served as President and was very active in the Beginning Experience program for separated/divorced/widowed Christians, and was active in the worship community at St. Anthony’s Seminary.
          Harold will be remembered for his fatherly love, gentle sense of humor, and fairness and service in business dealings.He enjoyed photography, hiking, the ocean, the mountains of Arizona, and family time with his children and grandchildren.
          A memorial Mass celebrating Harold’s life will be held at 7:30 PM on August 27, at St.Raphael’s Catholic Church in Goleta.
          Donations in Harold’s memory may be made to the Friendship Center, 89 Eucalyptus Lane, Santa Barbara 93108, or to Catholic Charities, 609 E. Haley St., Santa Barbara 93103.

      RICHARD DATKO JOINS SOME OF HIS CLASSMATES-

       Tom, please let the members of the Class of 1950 know that Richard Datko passed away March 31.
      Massive coronary just as he'd finished exercising in the afternoon. No pain, no hospital, no broken body.
      He was 73 and certainly lived life to the fullest and for many more years than he'd expected to live.

      Some may remember that he rode one of his motorcycles from Utah to the 50th reunion. And he went to the All-Class reunion last year, also on a motorcycle.

      Richard is also survived by two children; James lives in Ogden, UT and Katie in Los Angeles. He was a professor of Mathematics at Georgetown University. He retired in 1996 and, as our son said in the eulogy, he 'lived to ride' one of his motorcycles.

      Mass of Christian burial was held at Shrine of St Jude, Rockville, Md Wednesday April 5, 2006. Should anyone wish to make a memorial contribution, I suggest the Mt Carmel Foundation.

      Sad news about one of our classmates. May his soul rest in peace.
      John Francis Kinney, 74, of Mission Viejo, a captain for Los Angeles County Fire Department, died March 20, 2006, of leukemia. Services: 11 a.m. March 31, St. Kilian Catholic Church, Mission Viejo. Arrangements by O'Connor Laguna Hills Mortuary.

      Wife, Olive; stepdaughter, Kim Dietz; son, Matthew; sisters, Patricia Simmen, Kathleen and Cordelia Kinney; brother, Emmett; two grandchildren.

      • Sorry to report that John "Jack" Preston passed away in 1990. He was living in Monument, Colorado. He suffered from non-Hodgins disease for about 12 years. His sister in law called from Northern California with this information this morning. She called as a result of the reunion story in The Crusader which was received by her husband Warren Davies, MC '53. May God rest Jack's soul. Tom

        Ed passed away Thursday, 9-13-07.
        Ed and I were not only classmates at Carmel,
        we were partners in the MP's at Ft ORd; Partners at LAPD in the mid 1950's,
        neighbors for years in La Puente and remained friends for all these years.
        I was talking to him on the phone on thursday, and he sounded very tired.
        He had been in the hospital for a week or so, and his kidneys were failing. I told him to rest and I would call him on Friday.
        His wife (second one) called me friday morning and told me Ed passed a short time after we hung up. ( Ed Cline 1-6-32 to 9-13-07)

      CLASS OF 1951

      My brother, Paul Gussenhoven, died 5 January 2000 in Hillsboro, Oregon.

      Paul graduated from Mount Carmel in 1951. He had cancer in his throat and bottom of his mouth. Operations seemed to have been successful but after the doctors inserted a feeding tube he lost all interest in living. He died of pneumonia with his family around him. His career in the grocery business spanned about 45 years in southern and northern California. He had a very nice retirement but his illness kept him from getting the full benefit. We were all sorry to see him go. Mass and burial service took place at the San Luis Rey Mission Church and he was buried in the Mission San Luis Rey cemetery alongside his sister, Loretta.

      Michael Edward Hurray
      Michael Edward, passed away June 5, 2003 peacefully at home on Balboa Island. Mike was born May 7, 1941 in Inglewood, California. He attended Transfiguration Catholic School and Mt. Carmel High School in Los Angeles.

      After college Mike married his wife Patricia in 1964. He worked in Los Angeles at the family business, Commercial Enameling Co. (CECO) and was company President over the last decade.

      He is survived by his wife, sons, Mark and Matthew; daughters-in-law, Erin and Carolyn; grandchildren, Anna (5), Natalie (3), Benjamin (3), Caitlyn (1), Hayden (10 mo.) and William (10 mo.) and his mother, Mary Hurray.

      They have resided on Balboa Island for 30 years. Mike enjoyed boating, fishing, golf, USC football and spending time with family at their vacation home in Lake Arrowhead, California.

      A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 10 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Balboa Island. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael's name to: Hoag Cancer Center, c/o Hoag Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 6100, Newport Beach, CA. 92658.       Donald Alexander Pinard

      Life ended as the new year began for Donald Alexander Pinard, 69, a forty-nine year resident of the Victor Valley. His neighbor and friend, Angie McNeeley, found the retired Kaiser Permanente executive in his Lucerne Valley residence last Saturday, New Year's Day, apparently never waking from his last New Years Eve sleep.

      Pinard moved to Lucerne Valley at the conclusion of his service in the U. S. Army which included a tour of duty in Korea at the end of the Korean War. His parents, Clifford D. and Florence Pinard, had moved to the valley in 1956, purchasing the Valley View Ranch on Christiansen Road. He was born in Los Angeles, California, July 27, 1935. Other than a few years during World War II when the family resided in Arlington, Virginia, he lived in Hawthorne, California, where he attended St. Joseph's School, then graduating from Mt. Carmel High School Los Angeles in 1953.

      Pinard hired on at the new Cushenbury cement operation of Kaiser Permanente, in the winter of 1956. Working in a variety of jobs in the early years of the giant cement operation, Pinard settled into the purchasing department and evidentially worked his way up to be in charge of purchasing. By the late 1970's, Pinard left the Cushenbury operation and took specialized assignments with Permanente, first in San Jose and then at mining operations in Indonesia. He retired in 1979. Pinard then established himself as a consultant and completed assignments with international cement companies in Freeport, Bahamas, Africa, and San Antonio, Texas through the mid 1980s.

      Married in 1957 to Karen Lee Klosman (now Hilker of Oceanside), whose parents Jay and Gertrude operated the Hitching Post Restaurant, Don would often assist in the family business. They had two daughters. The first, Jana, died in a traffic mishap in 1982. Her son Joshua Gallagher lives in New York. Their second daughter is Julie Pinard Verhagen, grandchildren are Destiny Carroll, John Jay Verhagen, Cheyne Verhagen, Tiana Verhagen, Julian Pinard, and one great grandson. Rylin Carroll. All are in San Clemente.

      Following a divorce, Pinard married Sheila Candow in 1987. She resides with the couple's son Donald Alec Pinard, 17, in Ajax, Ontario, Canada.

      Four brothers survive, John W. “Jack” Pinard of Port Hueneme, Thomas C. Pinard of Wrightwood, Richard "Louie". Pinard of Rosarito Beach, Mexico and James K. Pinard of Templeton, California. A sister, Pamela Marie Turner, and brother, Clifford Pinard, proceeded Don in death.

      Memorial services will be at Saint Paul's Catholic Church on Thursday, Jan 13, 2005. Inurnment will follow at Lucerne Valley Cemetery. Dudley Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
