Drafted into the Army in April 1953. Did 16 weeks basic infantry training at Fort Ord, CA. Ran into a few '51 grads while there. Was supposed to go to quartermaster school in Georgia, but when the cease fire in Korea came in July 1953, I went to the land of the Frozen Chosen in Oct 1953 with the 25th Infantry Division. The Division moved out to Schofield Barracks on Oahu, Hawaii in Sept 1954. Much better duty I must say. Instead of digging trenches and bunkers, I was now in the supply room with a class A pass. Weekends in Honolulu and Waikiki Beach.
After working for North American Aviation in the receiving warehouse for 1 1/2 years before, and 1 1/2 years after the service, and 1 year of commercial art and drafting at Los Angeles City College, I began, in July 1956, as a detail draftsman at Garrett Airesearch in Los Angeles near LAX. Retired after 35 years in July 1991 from what is now called Allied-Signal in Torrance, CA as a mechanical design specialist. From T square to drafting machine to CADAM (Computer Aided Drafting and Manufacturing).
Married my guardian angel Diana Keyes from Aviation High in Manhattan Beach in October 1964 at St. Josephs in Hawthorne. A wonderful 35 years and counting. We have three sons, no grandpersons. They all seem to be locked into batchelorhood. Diana is a hair stylist, and is still working at something she enjoys. Loves to meet and talk with people, while getting all the chitchat and the latest from her clientele. We have taken several cruises, and traveled to Mexico, Canada, the Carribean and Europe. We have been involved with Square Dancing since 1981. Still active, and enjoy traveling to many Square Dance festivals.
We have lived in Garden Grove since July 1965. We are Eucharistic Ministers
at St Polycarp parish in Stanton, which is near Garden Grove.
May our Lady Of Mount Carmel pray for us.
