Another View of The Chollar Mansion
In 1861, Billy Chollar discovered the Chollar Silver Lode, built himself a mansion, and lost them both to the newly established Bank of California. He left Virginia City for good in 1862. The first floor suite, Bedroom No. 1, is where the mine superintendent, Isaac Requa, and his wife, Sarah, used to hold their daughters' cotillions.

There is also a two room cottage, built in 1870, available for families or honeymooners. Wedding arrangements are available, also.

A special feature of the Chollar Mansion Bed & Breakfast Inn is the 1861 vintage, 164 square foot, arched vault that once stored millions in gold and silver bullion. Another is the Pay Master's booth, where each month on Tally and Exchange Day, the miners came to draw their pay. Isaac Requa sat here on that day with a revolver and a box full of "hard coin" (paper money was valued at 20% of face value, back then, and most miners wouldn't even take it.)

The Chollar Mine is the only mine still open for viewing, out of 450 miles of diggings.

The Continental Breakfast, served every morning, is a robust full breakfast at the B & B, with ham and cheese omelets and fresh coffee.
